Organ biopsies
Organ biopsies
Should sonography or CT/MRI procedures reveal suspicious lesions in the liver, pancreas or the lymph nodes, they can be specifically targeted and punctured under sonographic imaging. A biopsy can be taken from the organ for microscopic examination. In order to make this procedure pain free, the patient receives a short sedation as well as local anesthesia. A short hospital stay (24 hours) is required for observation during recovery.
Abscess drainages
In order to drain fluid accumulations or localized collections of pus, it is possible to puncture the area under sonographic imaging and insert a thin drainage catheter through the abdominal wall. This often prevents the need for surgery. This procedure in performed on an in-patient basis in our hospital.
